We have run out of outside models to imitate. We must start from scratch, embracing an idea of progress that is based on innovation, ambition and dynamism. Doing so will take risk — and extraordinary leadership.

Masaru Tamamoto, a senior fellow at the World Policy Institute, on Japan’s crisis of the mind (New York Times)

Actually, I would think that copying themselves would be a good idea. Look back to Matsushita, Dr. Honda, Shinji Sogo, etc etc and to the four-word national strategies that led Japan out of the ashes of WW2 and to the peak of the economic miracle. However, political leadership will be important, and right now it looks to me like Japan's politicians are a bunch of spoiled trust-fund babies who've never made a contribution nor accomplished anything on their own, let alone on the scale of a Shinji Sogo.

About time. I'm sick of slapstick.

Time to learn how to evolve and individualize!!
