We spent years creating chemical-free soil for organic vegetables but now it is covered with radioactive materials. What an ironic consequence.

Yuko Sugimoto, who had planned to raise and sell organic vegetables at her farm in the Fukushima town of Namie, which is in the no-go zone. (AFP-Jiji)

Not true. All soil has chemicals. Soil itself is made up of chemicals.

Well, you put your bobo farm between the 2 biggest power plants of the world... that was already ironic, no ? I'm sorry for all the people that lost their belongings, houses and business, but in this case, really nothing special.
In my old village, a number of fields were "selected" as possible land to sell away to build a new airport.... 5 to 15 years later. Farmers received small checks at once. Plus, as a consequences, the selling price went above market (as they hoped big premium when they'd sell to prefecture) and renting super-low (you'd have to move away your farms). When the project was voted, of course, all the beatniks doing their so-called organic carrots did huge anti-aiport demos. That reminds me that lady, because they explained to me, village girl, how they had "cleaned from chemicals" the soil of my great-granny 's marsh. Sure ! It had been marsh, since prehistory until the 1990's when they redirected the river. But thanks for your work, we get an organic airport.

An "organic" farm located right near a massive nuclear plant?! Yeah, right.

This is only 'ironic', if ones dictionary is written by Alanis Morrisette.
