What the people want more than anything at all is the sense that other people – the rest of Japan – are keeping a careful watch over them and are ready to help. Instead, they fear that the rest of Japan is watching the baseball and comedies on TV and have forgotten about them.

Because people know that govt is planning to build more nuclear plants and such disasters may happen in future also...so how long they should keep watching/listening to tragic scenes/speeches?

Well, and rightly so. That's exactly what has happened.

All those empty platitudes like "Gambare Nihon" were BS from the start. Theres no real sense of community in Japan except for at the most local level.

.... and they would be right! Their fears are not without foundation.

Today from 2pm on NHK BS1 it's the Tigers vs the Giants, and from 7pm on TBS it's the Comedy Special: King of Conte.
I won't be watching either program.

Stupid and untrue statement.

The minds and thoughts of people without a direct connection to the disasters, especially the nuke one, are drifting in other directions, so I basically agree with the statement.
We need to keep the attention of the nation on these disasters, and the world's attention on the nuke disaster.
What is the old saying, "no news, is good news" but not in this case?
