Both nations face the dilemma, that their modern history is very young. The US is barely 250 years old and modern Japan barely 150.
Whilst the US disregards the rich history of their indigenous population, Japan mystifies and reduces their long rich history to one word: SAMURAI. But one must only look on the rich writings of the Edo time to see there is so much to learn for today from the old Japan. A history that was shamefully put away in the Meji area.
I do not give much on the US (the history of wars), but I do feel sad that the Japanese do not study and learn from their rich past.
