Arrested Noevir vice president fails to learn from dad

The founder of cosmetics manufacturer Noevir, known as a distinguished and vigorous individual, must be frowning upon his son, Hisashi Okura, 43, vice president of the company and president of its subsidiary, Tokiwa Pharmaceutical. Police arrested Okura on Feb 2 on suspicion of violating anti-stalking laws.

According to one investigator, “A woman who was involved with the suspect got married after she broke off the relationship. Okura sent the husband about 100 emails in a month, saying that he would release photos of the woman on the Internet.”

Apparently, Okura—a married man—resented being dumped by his former lover.

This “stalker” company president worked for a bank upon completing his college education, joined his father’s company at the age of 26 and was promoted to vice president 10 years later. In the following year, he was also assigned as president of subsidiary company Tokiwa Pharmaceuticals. It was a quick and easy rise to the top level, being the second son of Hiroshi Okura, founder of Noevir (currently chairman).

Depicted by the media as a pathetic pampered son, he contrasts sharply with his father, recognized as a dynamic entrepreneur. Journalist Toshiyuki Fukuda describes the older Okura as “an individual who achieved prominence during the bubble period, and he certainly stood out. He once served in the Air Self-Defense Force and is licensed as a pilot. Noevir has a company plane that he’d fly himself for business trips. His lavish parties with businessmen and yachting were very well known.”

From the time he founded his company in 1964, making a fortune in his lifetime, he had been a top-notch tycoon who worked hard and played hard. He even made media headlines in the mid-80s for his cruise trips with disgraced Recruit founder Hiromasa Ezoe, accompanied by their mistresses.

Okura’s son lives on the top floor of a luxurious condominium building overseeing Kobe Bay and has a private jet as well. While the man may have inherited wealth and prestige, judging by the recent stalking incident, he clearly failed to learn his father’s style in terms of “how to play.”

During his presidency, the current chairman of Noevir had all new recruits climb Mt Yarigatake (3,180 meters) as part of their employee training to “prepare them as members of society.” But it seems the son was not provided with the kind of mental preparation and training necessary for a top executive.

Ouch. Game, set and match. The stalkee got the last laugh, regardless of any internet pictures published.

I disagree, sounds like "the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree". His dad flaunted his mistresses and used his wealth and power to his advantage. His son appears to have just done the same. Except now there are increased protections for women, like anti-stalking laws. Both appear to treat women like commodities, where's the big difference? Which, given that this company sells its products mainly to women, is pretty amazing.

Anyone know if Hiromasa Ezoe is still head of Recruit? Or did he have to resign after the Recruit Scandal that took down so many of the LDP heads?

The difference is the father did not break the law or stalk any woman, the son did. If you don't understand the difference, you need help.

jerseyboy: it's because they are executives of a cosmetics company that they have a particularly bad attitude towards women, i suspect. cosmetics companies have higher rates of women working there, which they could treat as their own dating pool.
