Chiba murder suspect's MO comes to light
The man had stood at various stations to appraise women on their commute to school or work, keeping his eyes on those with long hair and busty figures. Once he spotted a “good” target, he would spend several days tailing the woman to learn her daily routines and took action when the timing was right.
This seems to have been the method of operation by Tatsumi Tateyama, 48, the chief suspect in the murder of Chiba University student Yukari Ogino, 21. Tateyama has already confessed to the police that he is the man in the security camera footage at the bank ATM where cash was withdrawn from the victim’s account. At present, he insists that he had found the card somewhere and simply used it. Tateyama has been charged with two cases of attempted assault.
A police source stated, “Tateyama was arrested in 2002 for burglary and injury and had just been released from prison in September. We suspect he has been committing crimes since then. Although he was arrested on two separate different cases of attempted rape and robbery, the investigation is also focusing on further crimes that may have been committed by the suspect. In particular, his obsession with women is quite abnormal.”
On Nov 2, the day the police released the ATM footage of Tateyama to the public, he broke into a home in Chiba prefecture at 7.30 a.m., shortly after the wife saw her husband off to work. It seemed the culprit knew exactly the morning routine of the couple that became the target of this crime.
According to police, Tateyama entered the house through a window, tied the wife up with nylon stockings and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint, after which he took off with 180,000 yen in cash. In October, a similar crime was committed against a 60-year-old housewife and her daughter, who was abducted in a car and assaulted. The mother suffered a fracture in her jaw and the daughter was abandoned in the mountains while Tateyama again withdrew 500,000 yen from her bank account at the nearest ATM. The method of his crime seems to be the same in each case – to assault the victim, threaten the woman with a knife to get her to reveal the PIN number of the bank account and flee with the bankcard.
The case of the Chiba University student is identical. The victim had just returned in the morning from her part-time work as club hostess when the assailant attacked her, shortly after which cash was withdrawn from her bank account. Not only was the modus operandi the same, the lodging house in Arakawa Ward where Tateyama was hiding out was only two kilometers away from the nightclub where Ogino had been working.
Hostesses who knew Ogino say that she was not the type of woman who was easily intimidated. It is highly likely that she put up a strong fight against the assailant, losing her life as a result.

What a wonderful piece of work. Thinking about his hanging around outside railway stations, perhaps the local police could take a leaf out of Japanese history. Namely bury him up to his neck outside one of these railway stations and invite passersby to saw at his neck with a (rather blunt) bamboo saw.

Sick creep, it's a good thing they caught him. It's unfortunately too late for Miss Ogino, but they've saved other women from becoming his victims in the future. Sexual sadists like this don't stop committing crimes, their assaults only increase in violence. It's a shame they didn't catch him before Miss Ogino lost her life, but sexual assaults (even coupled with robbery) aren't taken very seriously here. I hope the police begin taking a more serious look at assaults and stalking here in Japan.

Do these criminals not have a period of probation where they have to report their daily schedules and residency to a prison probation officer ? It seems as though he went on an orgy of robbery and assault in a very short period of time which leads you to believe that neither the police nor the prison probation authorities did their jobs properly.
So the police released a picture of an ex-prisoner who had been in jail until September this year and did not do their homework to realise that they already held photographic and prison records of the ATM suspect.

Do they even have probation in Japan?
In any case with a murder and multiple violent assaults in such a short period of time, I hope he qualifies for a hanging.

hopefully raping and then setting fire to this poor girl will give a jury enough cause to make this nauseous specimen swing.

Would they prefer he be obsessed with men? I love women but do not think it is evil to do so. It is his actions that are abnormal. He needs rehab badly.

Read the article, he tied up and assaulted the women and then threatened to kill them with a knife to get the pin number. Why ask questions that are clearly spelled out in the article?

I think the cops have done a pretty good job with this one. One more perv off the streets.
Yelnats, I don't think rehab is what the judges are going to have in mind for this creep.
