The record he brokw a while back was the one for hits in one season, which had been 257 until Ichiro came along.

looking backward, 100 years ago Baseball must be entirely different than what MLB is today. But for Japan, it might be as important as Oh Sadaharu's HR record of 55 decades ago.

you always have a go at Ichiro. I would argue that it was easier to get these hits 100 years ago. It was certainly easier to set a record for the 100 meters at the Olympics 100 years ago. Ichiro has done great and will go down in history as one of the best ball players ever. You wont have a say in it.
