Might be a different story for the Russians this time. I know of certain English fans who are currently on their way to Lille and we are not talking decent fans or families.

Here's a question for the French authorities. There were half a dozen Russian troublemakers in Lille. Why didnt they arrest them after what happened in Marseille? Is it only the English fans who get arrested? Are the French police scared of the Russians?

Bars in the centre of Lille will have to close at midnight on the night before

Midnight. That'll stop fans getting drunk. Same old French incompetence.

The French would be advised to evacuate all Russians from France. After their attempt at mass slaughter in Marseille, the Slav should expect no mercy and a very severe beating

A new breed of soccer hooligan - scary stuff

Glad to see that soccer games are still played there in Europe. . . It certainly is their sport. And that all the radical muslims living there haven't disrupted the venues and scheduled games.

I guess this proves how dull and tedious soccer is. In an effort to stay awake, the fans need to riot and kick the snot out of each other.

Attila, the one thing that keeps football as the most popular sport worldwide is that it is exciting to watch. I give much more respect to rugby players and rugby fans, professional cyclists, professional cricket. But although football players and supporters are generally idiots, the game itself is exciting to follow.

These Russians are not football fans and do not follow a team. They are sponsored and supported by the state and are the muscle for far-right political groups in Russia. A prominent minister was caught on a busload of the thugs in France and none of the Russians have been seen out enjoying France and having a drink in town. They were bussed-in to attack people.

The English hooligans are idiots too but at least they follow a football team and will have a drink in town.

why have a food ball match? why don't they have gladiatorial arena matches? thugs could go head to head, and we could watch! that would be more entertaining!! the winner stays on, etc.

Dozens of Russian hooligans have been sent back home. Just not easy to see who does what when small, very mobile groups fight each other.

For those who think euro football = hooliganism other sports such as basketball have a similar problem. Football is used as a pretext to defend your colours, city, nation etc. Football or not those guys will fight, thats why we see plenty of vids of russian, ukrainians etc hooligans fighting in forests, parks etc far from any football games. Same for south america they also have such groups (was actually in japan during the world club comp and saw hordes of river plate fans, some of them fighting each other on the terraces).

For americans who dont fully understand that, its imo comparable to your street gangs, they just fight over different things and usually dont use guns.

TIgers; Soccer is popular because the rules are simple and the cost is low. It is accessable by almost everyone on earth. However, it's about as exciting as watching grass grow. Any sport that allows ties (particularly the 0-0 version), especially in playoff or tournament play, is in need of serious retooling.

So that's the "sporting spirit" eh ? I'm beginning to wonder if I understand the word "sport" correctly ? When I was growing up we were taught to be "good sports" but I didn't know it meant clashing with other people over some overgrown boys running after a little ball...

I think I'm a "good sport" - since I certainly don't mind being thumbed down by all the "good ole sports" out there !
