Mao will have a tough time beating those other talented competitors ... but in her last outing she looked great ... she had lost some weight and skated close to what she did when she was a 14-year-old tinker bell ...
So ... hopefully she can once again shine like the diamond she used to be ...

Miss Asada is an amazing athlete and fantastic performer, but her choice of costumes and music for her routines leaves me baffled. I wish she had a different stylist and better selection of tunes to work with in the past. She's such a gorgeous young woman and terrific skater, it's always entertaining to watch her compete, but she could do so much better with her outfits and songs. That aside, she's adorable, accomplished, and inspirational. Go Mao-chan !!!

As long as she doesn
t go for the triple axel, she should win this event. She has such a graceful routine its alway a pleasure to watch. Sorry to say but the Grand prix final should go to that Russian phenom, Tutkamisheva. She`s one level higher than everybody else.-1

Without the likes of Kim and Ando, the competition does not look that great. The 14-year old Russian who's already qualified might be the one to watch in Quebec. There's no doubt Asada is a top skater (when she's not off), but her choice of music and costumes isn't always the best. In fact the music can sometimes be dark and depressing.

Mao has 13 points from her 2nd place finish in Japan. Two spots are left for the final. To secure one of those spots she needs 21 or more points total, so she could come in 4th or 5th (against modest competition) and earn enough points to get a Grand Prix spot. She will probably come in first.

Perhaps as you figure skating fans already know, Mao is in first place after the short program, which was held today (Friday). Right behind her are three Russian skaters, so she will be under pressure not to make any mistakes in the free portion of skating if she wants to win. She's looking great so far ...
