Rika Hongo should have won it , she didnt make nearly as many errors as Asada. This is the main reason i hate watching sports that are judged entirely by people. Open to corruption and points can vary greatly depending on which judge it is. Then you have the Sochi fiasco,

But Rika did make mistakes. And you have to account for Mao's superiority over Rika in other areas of her skating, as well as her almost 6 points lead in the SP. It only makes sense that Mao won overall.

Please study more about the sport. Mao's jumps are more difficult and worth more points ie. the triple axle jump. It's like gymnastics. You can perform perfectly but if your program is easy you don't get high points.

Congrats, Mao-chan and Rika!

I was impressed with Rika Hongo and thought she had won with her near perfect skate. Mao made mistakes and even fell, but she had a comfortable lead from the short program and had the more technical, difficult program with higher points. I believe it was her perfect opening triple axel that clinched her win. It was a close competition, with only 2 points separating her and Rika. It could have gone either way.

You can perform perfectly but if your program is easy you don't get high points. the Sochi Olympics is a perfect example, The Russians got the gold but they clearly werent the best skaters. Also why Ice Skating will never be a mainstream sport just too many bias and open to corruption.
