"Put on another sumo clinic." Who wrote this? Surely not a native English speaker. This really is a strange expression.
Asahak at 07:47 PM JST - 25th September
I have never heard that expression before, but... what really counts is Asa`s victory!

This is getting interesting!
Pro ASA fans is getting tight support in JT.
As I mentioned Hakuho and ASA they in war.
Mongolian media know that Kukushuzan is the main problem starter with ASA.
And now Hakuho is east Yokuzuna and Kukushuzan is main head behind.
GO ASA GO ASA GO ASA

asashoryu really wanted to shove kotoshu out of the ring. to his dismay, the big bulgarian fell down before the mongolian had a chance. i've noticed, recently, even when his opponent has clearly been defeated, asashoryu relishes pushing/kicking him out of the ring. not very sportsman-like. wagging the hitosashiyubi

slim hopes indeed. He needs Hakuho and Asa to lose tomorrow, then Hakuho to beat Asa on the last day. Also Baruto needs to win both remaining matches and then a 3 way playoff with two Yokozunas. I other words he needs 7 results to go his way, 5 of them featuring Yokozunas on a roll.
Still, 11-2 is awesome and if he can win one or two more it's not going to hurt his chances of being an Ozeki in the near future.

I'm no Sumo expert - I'll wait until I'm blind, deaf and 95 years of age like the rest of the "experts" - but I thought the aim of Sumo was to shove the opponent out of the ring.
That is simply why Asashoryu is number 1, and when fit, is basically INVINCIBLE! TOO EASY, ASA, TOO EASY!

Actually, the expression to "put on a [footy/cricket] clinic" is quite commonly used in Aussie sports media, to describe a great performance - interchangeable with the common British idiom to "put on a Masterclass" . Translator/writer is possibly Australian?
And, boy, hasn't Asa been putting on a Sumo Clinic for all the kiddies he's been smacking up!

Then you don't read about sports in English. The expression is a popular English expression. It is used to show that one athlete's skills were far superior to that of their opponent. The difference was so great it was almost like they were teaching a seminar.
For example read some of the articles on yahoo sports or Espn about the recent Mayweather vs. Marquez fight.
quote:
Mayweather put on a pure boxing clinic, pasting Juan Manuel Marquez in as comprehensive a performance as you will ever see in a unanimous decision victory before 13,116 (mostly Marquez fans on Mexican Independence Day weekend) on Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Interesting. For someone like me, not a native speaker of English, this is a new expression, but now I will remember it.
And I hope that Asa will put on the biggest Sumo clinic ever on Sunday.

Kotooshu looked very handsome today. I want to slap Asashoryu for beating him.

is it the point of sumo to shove/humiliate your opponent while he is outside of the ring by shoving him in the back & into the crowd? even hakuho has taken exception to these kind of cheap theatrics when asashoryu did the same thing to him.
