Asa is depressed. Lost his confidence and probably hates the sumo board and getting to hate sumo in general if not Japan. After the way he has been stung this year, he should humiliate the sumo bosses as much as possible before retiring home as a God.

Good points romulus mate. I reckon he shouldn't go home but join the K1 circuit. He'd be a great draw and make a ton of cash.

Chiyotaikai (6-3) outfoxed Miyabiyama but there were murmurs of disapproval from the crowd after he uncharacteristically dodged Miyabiyama (3-6) at the charge before barging the former ozeki over the bales.

Welcome to the henka tournament of 2008. Thank the new boss.

Even Ama went to the side today against Asa. Asa should have seen that coming given it's the in thing to do now and Ama had lost the previous 12 against Asa trying to do it the right way. Asa has to stay strong mentally for the rest of the tournament and gear up for November. There are murmurs of retiring but he will dismiss that I hope. When Asa retires I think that'll be the end of my interest in the sport. What a snoozefest. Hakuho will go on a two or three year winning spree with no one to challenge him. Good for Hakuho but christ is he boring. No attitude, no personality. Uggghhhh.

    WMD,

Asa vs Badr Hari is a no win situation for Asa. I reckon WWE may be an option for Asa.

Think either they need to relax and smoke a little or buy off a few players. Which ever seemed to the way of the past :>

it would be so funny if in one match, both wrestlers tried henkas and jumped the opposite directions....

Asa might pull out tomorrow. I'll remind everybody when the news breaks that you heard it here first, and my anonymous handle value - which by the way nobody but myself cares about - will go up from zero.

It's getting depressing being an Asa-fan.

Asa's going to make it 5-5 tomorrow and 6-5 Wednesday and 7-5 Thursday and 8-5 Friday and 9-5 Saturday. Meanwhile Hakuho is going to screw up two bouts before losing the showdown with Asa on Sunday to set up the playoff match which he will lose ha ha ha hey, it's possible.

4th defeat? Not so long ago, all the Asa fans were saying that he was going to come back from Mongolia and kick everyone's but-good. I must have missed something, maybe I blinked and the beating passed me by without my noticing it. I'm certainly not seeing it here.

You know the bull-dog on the Sumo council is rolling around on the floor laughing. She'll call for Asa's resignation yet again. Maybe send the ailing Asa a nice big pair of golden scissors to help his recovery.

Actually, at this point I would have to say Asa is not going to get the yusho even if he wins the rest of his bouts, including his bout with Hakuho, as Hakuho is not going to lose three more bouts.

Well yeah, it was over yesterday, when the judge decided to end his tournament prospects for him. Thus the apathy today. We saw something similar last tournament, and good for him, if the judges aren't going to get it right or intentionally make things harder. Don't be surprised if he pulls out tomorrow. His stable master said it was possible tonight.

  • Sarge at 12:58 AM JST - 23rd September

chibaman - It wasn't exactly apathy, that wily Ama is awfully quick!

  • chibaman at 01:01 AM JST - 23rd September

Ama is awesome but his sly to the side today was nothing to be proud of. Asa was very ho-hum about it all, wasn't fired up as the bout got under way.

Asa has pulled out. That's right folks, you heard it here first. Do you think I'm some kind of big man? No? Well I do.

Asashoryu’s (5-4) performance in the day’s penultimate bout was nothing short of pitiful

Generous. Calculated. Pitiful? Looks like yesterday's loss to Ama was Asa's little here you go buddy, have another white star on me and go for yuusho. I would have pulled out yesterday but I'll hang in today and give you this one.

Asa is obviously and rightfully peeved about Sunday's robbery by the ringside judge. The guy wasn't even looking - while NHK couldn't get the best shot of his foot supposedly out, and in what they did show there appeared to be air under his heel, they did happen to get a great shot of the judge with his eyes in another direction right as it was about to happen, and they sure got his late reaction on camera. What a disgrace.
