Asashoryu wins overall title at LA exhibition

LOS ANGELES —

Mongolian grand champion Asashoryu won the overall title Sunday at a two-day exhibition meet held in Los Angeles among wrestlers in sumo’s elite mukuuchi division. Asashoryu, who dominated the first day of the meet, disposed of komusubi Kisenosato with an underarm throw in a playoff to claim the overall top honors at Memorial Sports Arena.

Kisenosato beat Mongolian yokozuna Hakuho with a frontal force out in the day’s final to set up the playoff. It was the first time in 27 years that a mini-tournament was held in Los Angeles.    Bulgarian ozeki Kotooshu, who became the first European to capture an Emperor’s Cup at the summer meet in Tokyo, lost to Hakuho in the quarterfinals.

Kotooshyu, my love, gambatte. Next time you have to defeat Asashoryu and Hakuho again.

Surely it will never happen again.

It was a great flash in the pan moment, but it was a one off.

TeruSensei, it will never happen again? Well Asashoryu is in regress. It will happen many times from now on.

Kotooshu must have been jet lagged. I thought he was unstoppable after the last tournament?

Kotooshyu is sweet and kind, he gave a chance to Asashoryu in a meaningless tournament.
