"The ruling was delayed by one month until after the federation’s annual meeting in Qingdao, China, allowing members to “fully understand the reasons” behind its introduction."

So what IS the reason for this decision... I don't recall seeing it anywhere. And yes, making it mandatory for women to wear one thing and men another is sexist, any way you try and spin it.

Another way of looking at it: this allows girls who want to wear skirts to do so without facing accusations of "sleazing" up the sport. Players can wear anything they feel comfortable in, but girls who want to wear skirts don't need to feel negative pressures for doing so.

As long as clothing is sufficient to keep attention on the birdie rather than the bootie, they should let women wear what they want.

So who thinks they're just trying to increase their veiwership? Seriously, they should be allowed to wear shorts if they want to.

Yes, it is an abomination that the federation won't allow men to wear skirts. They are liberating!

If you want to see men in skirts, fine. Point is all forms of clothing should be an option to all, save the obviously unsuitable. This 'women must wear skirts' crap reminds me of how Japanese female athletes, thanks to old men in power, had to wear 'bloomers' until the late 90s.

If " increasing badminton’s popularity" is their goal, then I suggest pleated mini-skirts and thongs. Do that and I might even watch. Well, for five or ten minutes, anyway.

I think tennis has the same rule. That didn't hurt the sport any.
