this is about top players at present, not those "once upon a time....!"

Wow, I didn't realize the NL lost 14 years in a row until last year. Hoping the Brewers players make it a repeat 'cause I'm not that thrilled with the AL selection of the injured Derek Jeter and the admitted steroid user Alex Rodriguez. Good reminder in the article that among Yankees players Sabbathia and Teixeria are more deserving of All Star status this year than Jeter and A-Rod.

Errr, some14ssome, if we are talking about top players in the present then what the hell is Jeter doing on the team! The all star game balloting is a joke, it has become a popularity contest, not a true example of the best players. While I am glad that Bautista is going, if you look at the team, they are mostly Yankees or Red Son players, and that is because their fans vote more often than anyone else.

Bautista HR statistics:
2006: 16 2007: 15 2008: 15 2009: 13 2010: 54 2011: 27 (half-way thru season)
Make your own judgement.

mikeinhach... with the exception of when players voted for All-Stars, it has always been a popularity contest for position starters... come on, Cal RIpken started the 2001 game, did he deserve it?
