9.58 is simply ridiculous. Poor old Tyson Gay ran almost as fast as Bolt did in Beijing, but given that Bolt cruised the last 20m for that 9.69, he didn't really stand a chance.
I reckon Bolt has a shot at breaking 19s for the 200m. Until a year ago it didn't even seem possible anyone would ever break Michael Johnson's 19.32...

9.58 is absolutely awesome. Congrats to Usain Bolt on breaking the world record yet again. Watching it on TV, it looks like Bolt isn't even running hard, but with his height and long strides, he just makes it look easy.

Dang, thats a little bit more than 37 km/h if I've done my math right, and to think I get all worked up when I top out at 15.

Man, oh man. Amazing feat by all of the 100m medal winners, and especially Bolt. I chuckled a little at Tyson Gay's comment that his groin was hanging on. Must have been a slip of the lip. Exciting stuff! Can't wait for the 200m.

This site on the IAAF website gives a breakdown of the race every 20m. Awesome. http://berlin.iaaf.org/mm/document/competitions/competition/05/30/83/20090817081546httppostedfilewch09m100final_13529.pdf

Amazing upper body musculature too, especially for a 22 year old.

Well, another clean win for Usain Bolt, to be sure. Something to proud of back in the homeland.

He should change his first name to Lightning.

Dawn of new era in athletics via Bahamas Bolt in coming 2010s,with 9.58 seconds record time in 100 meter race.
He did not slow down at finish line, good for Bolt.
Bolt could have done better in many of his race times,if he did not slow down at finish line, like he did in this berlin record run.

Well, if he had run all of his races without slowing down, it would have reduced his earnings. As it stands he got US$60,000 for winning and US$100,000 for breaking a record.

i.e. his earnings in subsequent races.

sappquest- Thanks I did not about this info, slowing down to earn more in 100 meter races.
Bolt seem to be only runner, who does this. Carl lewis did movies/TV shows and many adverts ,besides running to get rich.
Bolt should follow Carl Lewis way,to earn more via his fame.

hajakumar, the guy Bolt won, whether legally ot illehaly , we shall see. But well done if it was legit like. Do you think you can make a post without referring to money?>

Neil warnock- I will try my best, not to refer to money in sport news.
Sports is not business/money news,I think we should make as little comment about money as possible.

Sarge,
Not "Lightning," but "O'Lightning," Irish-like.
Anyhoo, here are good stories about "Two decades of the World's Fastest Men:"

That's why you only ever see the pole vault world record increase by 1cm at a time. Each and every time they break it they get a bonus.
