    The fact that it is a reported "major-league contract" means nothing as far as where he will start his pro career in the RedSox organization next spring. The importance is related to the probable MLB-minimum annual salaries he will receive even when he is in the minors, and procedural issues with options back-and-forth between the minors and majors down the road because he will be on the team's 40-man roster from the beginning and, as such, will have to be protected according to the rules. His MLB service time only will accrue through actual MLB service, and has nothing to do with the time he is simply in the RedSox organization.
