That family must have issues with the US. Three kids and not one skated for the US. Now, I'm curious, how did Cathy "chose" at the age of 21?? She's 22 now, they say you decided last year so... she must have had both passports.

YOu are supposed to decide at 20. This makes me think I culd get a Japanese passport and keep my current one as well. If they let the halfs who have never even lived in Japan, why not?

The Reeds do not come across as Japanese and that hurt them to be represented wearing the proud Japanese Jackets. Just looked wrong. There is still too much Jp blood stuff going on here except with talento. They totally lack JP blood. Too bad for the Russians. The girl was hot, and she brought on something good to the world...a reawakening for indigenous people that are being assimilated way too fast. No star trek movies here please even though I love them. “I’ll probably wear it in the shower,” Moir said of his medal. “I’m not going to take it off all week.” Gold does not tarnish, which is one of its virtues but heavy and dense like most of us posting. :-) Just kidding.

Wrong tmarie. Last age is 22, but you never have to give up your American or UK citizenship, nor turn over your passports. You can get a Japanese one too and I can also. They belong to the UK and the US and you have no right to give them to another government. You need to register with your local ward office and do the kosekitohon and that stuff but there is a way. Why would you want it? I am a permanent resident, and if I left the country, I would have to come back at least once a year at least from what I last knew of to keep it active, but when it comes time to register a new address as that is required if you move etc,. and I do not have one, what happens then? A circles.

The Russians have gone on record over their disatisfaction with the "complicated" scoring system. I think they need to pipe down and consider themselves lucky to be taking the bronze. In my eyes this should have been a Noth American sweep with Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto of the USA taking the Bronze. These two had a marvelous performance with one of the most spectacular lifts early on in their skate. The Russians- Nah, just more controversey as they wrapped themselves in rope and tossed easch other around like bags of luggage throughout their performance. Not really "dancing" in my opinion.

BTW- why even bother with this "Reed" story ? They were a "non issue" at these Olympics and highlighting a 17th place finish is really questionable- what's the point ?

Goddog:The Reeds have 50% Japanese blood. That's a lot more than most of the Latin people Japan gives preference to when bloodline seems important. Branded:How can the Reeds be "non issue" when they were the only couple to represent Japan? Give these two a break!

they represented Japan so respect to that. Japanese are going to have to realize that choosing to be Japanese even while having a different heritage is double respect not less so, and is okay with a majority of people. Home is where the heart is.

Have to admit I ONLY saw the Cdns, Americans, to Russians in the short program by TV & without question the Cdns were outstanding.

At the final it would have been gold for Americans, Russians or Cdns. At least this time a French woman was not a judge & gave bad points to the Cdns & more to the Russians in hope of better points to the French two. She admitted after, but errors or whatever cannot be changed at the Olympics be it Summer or Winter games.

I'm thinking 17th place is, well, err- pretty much a "non-issue".

I tend to agree. They were outstanding for the type of program they did- somewhat slow paced and flowing. The Americans, on the other hand, were also outstanding ! But theirs was a more powerful and energetic show. In such a case, the gold medal goes to the home team.
