If he were actually any good , the Premier teams would have been after him in the transfer window.
I saw him playing against Aussies and he wasn't very good to say the least. Blimey, i think he just says he wants to go back to Japan , because European clubs won't sign them, unless they're rubbish ones.
most premier league teams are nearly broke or else owned by multi billioners who all try to by the same small group of players. the best football in europe is played in spain. he is at celtic the biggest team in scotland and plays in the champions league every year, so i would say he is doing very well for himself.

I wonder if his previously hurt knee is worse that anyone let on. That could be a reason he would want to take a step down.
I make no claim to be an expert on soccer, but I've heard and read the opinion from many that he has/had one of the best left legs in the game.
