Dang, elbuda Mexico must be mad! ha!

Anyway, with no TV at home, I haven't seen any of these matches, but watching one now (JPN v USA) has just reminded me why I threw away the TV in the first place. Every shot, every replay is focused on the home team, you'd be hard pressed to guess who the opponent is. I too wonder why time and time again these events are held in Japan most of the time. They managed to rope in the soccer coach and asked the usual 'what do you think of Japan' BS questions, while sitting next to tarentos and others unrelated to volleyball. It wouldn't be so bad if the crowd was gracious enough to clap when the other team wins a point. I remember a few years back some matches were held in Hong Kong and Macau. The home crowd were kind enough to cheer whenever Japan won a point. I also notice that the official homepage does NOT give live results in you live in Japan.

Japan did very well against the US all told, in particular with the last two games after the nail-biter of a first. China seems to have swept Germany without as much competition, and so also deserve a heart-felt congrats, especially on winning the berth.

You sound as if you know the final score. Where are you getting the information? They've done well to get the first 2 sets. But I do wish the commentators would stop all the background drama stuff, sob stories and what-not. Just show the match.

I think these major sporting events should have a rule by where the seats are divided for each team 50/50, and so fans are 50/50 in their cheering. If there are empty seats and the venue doesnt like it, use a venue that will accomodate the rule. Surely appreciating the role of fans would involve this rule......Perhaps Germany just gave into China after their recent match against Japan

Japan really gave it to those Yanks tonight. Even with their big-boppers, the American mob werent much chop. I don't think volleyball is their go? Anyway - good luck to Japan in London - Gold medal must be their goal.

Pukey2: I do know the final score, and did when Japan won all three matches, as I watched it streamed on my iPhone. The quality was horrible thanks to a bad signal, and unfortunately as you mentioned it focused almost solely on the Japan team, once in a while showing a lone audience member holding a 'go USA' sign, but Japan won all three matches. The first one was close, going to 29 points, the other two were more one-sided. Anyway, I agree 100% with what you say about the coverage. You can bet your bottom yen that had Japan secured the berth and not China that's all we'd hear about in the media and by word-of-mouth for until the actual Olympics started.

BurakuminDes: Japan did very well, but I have to admit I don't think the US was giving it their all -- at least not like they did in the game to secure their own berth. Still, they got served, and got served well.

US-Japan match was more like a charity game played for Ganbatte Fukushima.

Agree with BurakuminDes. The constant one-sided coverage was terrible, and I started watching the match thinking this, but I still found that I was cheering for Japan as the game went on.... maybe because of their outstanding play and teamwork.

I can't stand commentators and analyst of sports events hosted here.. Just the other day Japan was complaining about the one sided home support of North Korea. Pot calling kettle black I am sure Japan will be given another chance to get to london by being given the chance to host the last qualifier for the olympics probably early next year made of a watered down field excluding the qualified teams so that Japan qualifies.

@drlucifer, you can't be serious about comparing japan to NK. Japanese fans don't boo at opponent's national anthem (if they sing it, i don't know), they don't allocate only certain number of foreign fans (NK allowed only 150 J fans as opposed to 50,000 or so of their own people). You can talk crap about Japanese Prime minister without worring about going to jail, but you would in NK.
Also the reason they often or always have volleyball events in Japan is money/business. They can expect full crowd in Japan and they can charge more for tickets than most other countries.

Japan will qualify to the London Olympics....they almost got it in this World Cup, and they showed it winning tough opponents like Brazil, and U.S, number 1 and 2 in the World, respectively. And the were 3rd at the World Championship in 2003.

I watched Japan's matches through Internet, on Key Hole TV...if interests somebody. You can watch almost all the open japanese TV broadcasters there, although the quality isn't that good.

Sorry, I meant Japan was 3rd at the World in 2010.

Amazing how even though both China and Japan won 8 matches and lost 3 matches, and China lost to Brazil and the USA while Japan beat both those teams, China is ranked #3 while Japan is ranked #4 in this Wotld Cup, and China is guaranteed a ticket to the London Olympics while Japan is not. Well, OK, Japan did lose to China, if just barely. I guess Japan will have to wait until they win the Asian final qualifying tournament in May for their ticket to London.

What the heck happened to the USA last night, ha ha, oh that's right, Japan came out to play!
Great match, especially the first two sets, USA had 3 set points in the first set and couldn't pull it off, lol.

I think the Chinese have the Japanese to partially thank for their 3-0 win over Germany, on Thursday the Japanese really demoralized the Germans making them work so hard to win those two sets only to lose the match.

    serrano:

China was ahead of Japan because you get different points depending on how many sets you win in each match. Read the article. Winning 3-0 gets more points than winning 3-2. China, I believe, took at least 2 sets from ALL their opponents. That was not the case with Japan.

Pukey - You're right, China did take at least two sets from all their opponents, even #1 Italy and #2 USA. Still, it must have irked the Chinese that the Japanese beat two of the teams ( Brazil and USA ) that beat them.
