Oh, please! The Japanese are the only ones actually afraid of China's development. One doesn't need to be scared (even WITH the fear of development in Japan) of China to critize them. Hell, if I get served poison food at a restaurant ANYWHERE I'm going to criticize the restaurant, and not because I'm afraid it might get another star.

In other words, it's a pretty lame retort to said criticism.

he can pump up the chinese with this crap but it doesn't fly, especially when you look at the facts

I think they got a point to a certain degree.

We can only judge the games after they are finished. Remember hearing similar stuff prior to the Korea/Japan world-cup, nagano olympics, etc.

China and India are becoming major forces on the international scene both for good and worse.

Still don't think that Rio is ready for the Olympics and think Madrid should get it.

Japan will just muck it up, cementing over yoyogi-koen, etc.

All olympic hosts get criticise to max, time for china to get some. Criticisms and competitons are good for any nation, especially by being a olympic host.

    I agree.

"Oh, please! The Japanese are the only ones actually afraid of China's development"

Obviously you're not American to make such a comment. China's "developmet" has been and willcontinue to be "watched" carefully by not only all of the developed cvpunytries but by her competitors like India as well.

It's not so much China's social and economic development that people are afraid of, but the massive expansion of the Chinese armed forces in terms of budget. China needs to be more transparent to be trusted. Just who do they think they're going to be attacked by? Certainly not Japan or Taiwan.

Once again China goes out of it's way to paint itself into a corner to the point that when the air quality is so bad in Beijing during the Olympics, no one will be allowed to mention the obvious because it will be 'against China'. sigh

I wonder if there'll be a sand storm during the opening ceremonies? The Olympics was supposed to highlight everything right about the country, open it up and have a good time. But China is showing it's true colours by closing everything off, and in this report basically commanding everyone to have a good time. This only highlights the worst. It'll get to the point of a coriographed North Korean May parade at some point...

What social development? spitting or smoking?
What economic development? highest cancer in the world? having an earthquake that kills off your children then sweep the corruption of those schools under the rug? Every opportunity to use the Olympics to shadow failures seems to have no end

I live in a free country. I have nothing to fear from China. If schools collapsed with kids inside, they'd be a public inquiry. If corruption was the cause, people would go to jail. It wouldn't matter if the Olympics were on or not.

28 days to go. All national teams and nations must now focus on doing well in the games. All national olympic teams, should get medals, hold records and break records.

(sarcasm) Red China lashing back at her critics? How dare she?!?!? (/sarcasm)

I, for one, will not be watching, as I believe these Olympics in Red Chna to be a sham, a shame, and illegitimate, seeing how Red China has accomplished 0 of the promises she made when she was awarded the games 6 years ago. Beijing Air quality is still pathetic (not to mention dangerous; wonder how many athletes will develop lung cancer down the road thanks to Beijing's pathetic and wholly polluted air???), Red China's human rights record is still a grade of "F", and her infrastructure is still so full of corruption that were Red China to be cut, she'd bleed black.

As far as anyone being afraid, I believe it is Red China. Should all those foreign investors pull out of Red China tomorrow, her economy would implode, and her economic might vanish like fog in the Sahara Desert. Red Chinese Media and her public relations secretariat better watch their steps....

The air in Beijing is the most disgusting I've ever seen, though I've heard Mexico City is worse. After it rains the smog clears up a little.

I think that the IOC should have waited to give China the Olympics until we see a little more respect for human rights. I'm against politicising the games, but the Olympics is supposed to be a celebration of peace and the human potential, not something China seems all that committed to.
