Acquiring Koji Uehara is a good move for the Orioles, however, expecting him to be a workhorse in the middle of their starting rotation for 30+ starts over a 162-game MLB season is a mistake. At this stage of his career, Uehara would be better suited for a relief role/spot starter place on the Orioles' roster, but we'll see how things play out.
Its nice the Orioles saw through all the Japanese BS on Ueharas resume to give him a job.
1999: Central League Rookie of the Year, Sawamura Award (best starting pitcher in Japanese baseball that season), Gold Glove, best ERA, Strikeouts and Wins champion of the Central League/ 2002: Sawamura Award, Wins champion of the Central League and Japan Series/
2003: Gold Glove, Strikeouts champion of the Central League/ 2004: ERA champion of the year/ 2006: Most number of strikeouts in the WBC
So I guess when you say Japanese BS you mean Big Stats ? Funny how all these armchair internet journalists (bobbafett) know better than a professional Major League organisation. Or is it just outright prejudice against Japanese baseball players ?
No question Uehara has had a great career, but the last time he pitched over 100 innings in a season was 3 season ago. And it took him to late Aug to notch his first win as a starter this past year, though he did finish strong.
The MLB season is long and they travel much more than the Japanese players are used to (also across time zones). I have to agree with pathat that "penciled in" as a Number 2 starter seems a bit unrealistic. But I still hope he does well.
no no no no no!.I mean the rubbish he has been through with the giants the last 2 seasons. Being made closer and all. We are old buddies North. I almost always agree with you so please don't think I was being sarcastic. I was being genuine.

It's business not sports, Stats are irrelevant. MLB and NPB are not of same scale. How much does NHK pay to MLB for broadcasting J-players games?

Uehara is half the pitcher that he used to be.
