Good to see women breaking traditional "age" records in that level of sports. . . . . . . It is wonderful.

Over the course of a week, she held court at packed press conferences and fielded questions about her secrets to longevity. "Sleep a lot. Drink water a lot. It's nothing special"

"Oh, and take a 12-year break."

I'd be much more amazed, well, an eyebrow might rise, if she had continued playing a vigorous schedule to her current age.

Krum's continued success in women's professional tennis says more about the quality, or lack of it, in women's tennis at the moment.

Daijoboots: FYI-------------- It is more difficul tto come back after a 12 years hiatus .---------------------------------------------

Dog: Womens tennis currently is more competitive than it was years ago, because - as noted in the article - it is not only about SKILL , but SPEED and POWER. ................................................................................Players like Martina Navratalova ( who continued to play and win until 35) changed the tone of tennis............................................And we have come a long way from the chauvanism that dominated the sport - since Billy Jean King's performance was put under scrutiny way back in the late 70's

Yay for you, Kimiko Date! You're not only strong, you're beautiful!

BTW I used to teach at your alma mater, and everybody there was enormously proud of you.

Fine. Just don't talk about longevity etc as if you've been doing it for a long time.

I could use a 12-year break from work. And then when I go back all pumped up people can praise me for my energy despite my age. At which point I'll say "All you have to do is sleep a lot. And drink a lot. Nothing special really."

Sports generally don't work this way, you know.

Technically she was very good, but lacked the power. She has more power now and can finish. =She is going to the gym like she hints at. I would expect a few good years out of her and it should be exciting for fans and tennis.

Neither does working. But hey, does wonders for "longevity".

I'll bet she retires before year end.

Ahh I've got nothing against ya Date-Krumm, I just heard there was gold in yer belly.
