Deep Sky wins NHK Mile Cup

TOKYO —

Top favorite Deep Sky made a late charge down the final stretch to comfortably win the NHK Mile Cup on Sunday. Ridden by Hirofumi Shii, Deep Sky came storming through the inside to beat Black Shell in a time of 1 minute, 34.2 seconds at Tokyo Racecourse.

Deep Sky came home 1-3/4 lengths ahead of Black Shell to win 92 million yen in prize money, while American colt Danon Go Go placed third. Shii and trainer Mitsugu Kon won their first NHK Mile Cup titles.
