Been watching Daisuke-san since his Koshien days. A good guy, all-round. Otsukaresama. Ganbarre !
mrkobayashi
He was "just" 50-37, huh? That's a winning percentage of .575. Compare that to John Lackey who is 39-38 with the Red Sox but getting paid over 15 million dollars a year. Or how about former Cy Young award winners? Felix Hernandez is .565, Tim Lincecum is .559, RA Dickey .514, even Zack Greinke is .573. Anyway, good to see Dice-K in good form again after being written off on JT a few years ago.

The Mets have one of the smallest payrolls in MLB, down around eighty something million. Dice is getting a reported $1.5 million this year. If he keeps this up, they are going to make a movie sequel, Moneyball 2, about the Mets GM.

mrkobayashi, you chose one of the most misleading stats in pitching - it doesn't prove your point at all.
Yes, Matsuzaka was "just" 50-37. Considering his talent, that should've been much better. The fact that his W-L record might be better than some other pitches does not prove that he's a better pitcher in any way. Your W-L record is very dependent on how good your whole team is.
Yes, John Lackey may be 39-38, but his ERA is better than Dice-K's (.405 to .450). Felix Hernandez destroys him in ERA (.317 to .450), Lincecum destroys him in ERA (3.51 to .450), Greinke destroys him in ERA (.363 to .450).
And let's not forget that Dice-K played much of his career on very, very good Red Sox teams, while many of these other pitchers didn't. Hernandez has put up fantastic numbers on a horrible Mariners team. Greinke put up great numbers for terrible Royals teams.
With the excellent run support Dice-K got on the Red Sox, 50-37 is "just 50-37." JT (and the rest of the baseball world) correctly wrote him off years ago. A fantastic person he may well be, but you can't put him anywhere near these other guys you've mentioned. Dice-K's MLB career has been very disappointing.

To think, fatboy Bartolo Colon at age 40 is pitching better than Dice-K at age 33.

Dice-K had a terrible year in 2012 as he was just coming back from surgery, and the team as a whole did not play well. Just to add to what mrkobayashi said, Boston's winning percentage from 2007 to 2011 was .574, whereas Dice-k was .620 during that span. Let's not forget he won his one and only game in the World Series. It's unfortunate he got injured and was not able to contribute more, but he's done quite well for himself.

Doesn't he have one year contract to Met? Both Dodgers and Angels are wealthy but tend to lose in last inning with their savers. Maybe next season Dice-K may get good deal in West. Better than cold NY,
