Dragons beat Giants 1-0 in 10 innings in Central League
The Chunichi Dragons defeated the Yomiuri Giants 1-0 in Central League action on Sunday night. Little-used Dragons pinch hitter Takehiro Donoue delivered a sayonara single in the bottom of the 10th inning to the delight of the home crowd of 38,173 at Nagoya Dome.
After eight innings of a closely fought pitchers’ duel, both teams squandered chances to win the game in the ninth. Giants pinch hitter Yoshinobu Takahashi struck out with runners on first and third and two outs in the top of the inning, and Dragons shortstop Masahiro Araki was thrown out while trying to score from second on a two-out single in the bottom of the frame.
Giants starting pitcher Dicky Gonzalez got a no-decision despite holding Chunichi to one hit over eight innings. Dragons starter Wei-Yong Chen gave up one single in each of his eight innings but still managed to keep Yomiuri off the scoreboard. The Giants’ ace relief pitcher, Yuya Kubo (4-2), was tagged with the loss after facing just four batters in the tenth inning, while Dragons reliever Takuya Asao (7-2) pitched one and a third innings for the win.
Elsewhere in the Central League, Yakult rallied to beat Hiroshima 4-3, and Hanshin nipped Yokohama 2-1. In the Pacific League, Softbank defeated Orix 4-1, Rakuten beat Chiba Lotte 4-3, and Seibu won against Nippon Ham 6-2.

Big card starting tonight, Hanshin vs Yomiuri @ the Dome. If Hanshin can win 2 out of three then they have a decent chance at making the Climax series. Giants are 3 ahead, but Hanshin have a lot of easy opponent games left to play, against Yokohama and Chunichi. Should be a classic battle.
