You can always watch events for free - in 2000 I watched triathlon, marathon and sailing - I'm sure there are probably even more free ones. Or if you are really hard for cash, just skip the able bodied Olympics and go to the Paralympics a week later. The competitions are also good and it's cheap as chips. I think London will do a good job, despite all the doom and gloom all throughout Europe.
