FIA changes qualifying rules following withdrawal of Super Aguri from F1

ISTANBUL, Turkey —

Governing body FIA changed the qualifying rules Thursday after Super Aguri’s withdrawal from the Formula One championship.

With only 20 cars racing at the Turkish Grand Prix on Sunday, race stewards have decided that five rather than six will be excluded after each of the first two parts of qualifying on Saturday. That leaves 10 cars to compete for pole in the final 10-minute qualifying session.

Super Aguri pulled out of F1 on Tuesday due to financial difficulties. The Japanese team, founded in 2005, had no points from four races this season.
