I don't have a problem with extra time in and of itself, but 30 min is way too long for a single block. They should cut it into 2 15 min halves, and call the game for after the first 15 min if someone has scored.

    Golden Goal is fine too.

    They do.

Blatter said Thursday that he wants to stop teams from being defensive when they are even after 90 minutes in a knockout match “in an attempt to avoid conceding a goal at all costs.” “To prevent this, we could go directly to a penalty shootout at full time, or reintroduce the golden goal rule,”

A strange idea. How will scrapping extra-time stop teams being defensive at the end of 90 minutes if they're level? And how can anyone expect a team like Scotland (LOL) to "play to win" against Brazil or Germany?

I don't get it. If a team is playing for a scoreless draw and a penalty shootout, isn't it easier to do that for 90 minutes than for 120. Seems like more incentive to play defensively, not less.

And I thought that the reason/excuse for scrapping the golden goal was that teams were playing too defensively because they were scared of sudden death.

Sepp Blatter wants the governing body of football to consider scrapping extra time at the 2014 World Cup to encourage attacking ambition

Looks like it will motivate defensive play as teams can defend for less time

    Yep, you're right.

In the old NASL they had a thing called the shootout, which I think is a great way to solve a draw. Like in a penalty shootout, each team chooses the initial five kickers. The ball is placed on the 35 yard line, and when the whistle blows, the offensive player has 5 seconds to dribble in and shoot. The goalkeeper is also allowed to move once the whistle is blown. If there is a rebound off the goalie or the bar, even if there is still time left, the offensive player can not shoot again. Only one shot. I don't know, I enjoyed it at the time.

The 30 minutes overtime followed by a PK overtime shoot out is way too long, as intense and fun as it can be. I say Golden Goal.

Agree. Golden goal until someone scores. And scrap PK.

Golden goal is a best idea to make the game exciting.

Reduce the number of players for each team. Both teams take of three players after ninety minutes, making it eight-a-side. After fifteen minutes of extra-time, both team take off another three players. Five-a-side. Bound to get a result that way. And it'd be pretty damn exciting!
