I'm glad the Giants won. There's this aura around the New York Giants that gives you this feeling, "That's America's team" Not New England. Especially now. Tom Brady and his rich model girlfriend don't really represent the people of America. After seeing Eli Manning and his family on the field, you could immediately understand what his priorities in life are.

This year's SuperBowl didn't have flashy diamond rings and A-list celebrities showing off. America doesn't want to see this 1% on TV making us feel low. American Football is America's sport. To see a grand city such as New York come back from 9/11 and keep going, to keep on winning, it's just great.

    The Empire State!!

I have retained my hard Queens accent all these years. Will have to go back and visit family.

Only one hero, then? Or do they mean Heroes' Welcome? Not blaming you, JT!

Funny, I feel the same way about the Pats...

All joking aside, the coverage of the Superbowl by the news networks showed some of the pettiness that has crept into US society....it's absolutely a given that you're excited that your team wins, but some of the comments by Giants fans were along the lines of 'Yeah! We won, Boston sucks!' and 'Screw you, Boston!' I'm sure Pats fans would have been equally as tacky had they won. Be happy your team won, you don't have to insult the other team.

Not taking anything away from the Giant's victory because they earned it, but I always get a sour feeling in my stomach when "hero" gets tossed about for something as trivial as a sports championship. IMHO, the word should be reserved for actions that TRULY qualify as heroic: things like entering a burning building to save someone, or charging a machine gun emplacement that has your squad pinned down.

As great as the Super Bowl is, you aren't knowingly putting your life in danger when you play the game.

Frankly, I think any athlete who makes it as far as the Superbowl is a hero. I wish BOTH teams would be feted with the big parade!

I guess that's where we disagree, then. To me, any athlete who makes it to the Super Bowl was part of a team that performed better than the other teams in their conference over the course of only 18 or so games. There was nothing heroic about it.
