Severe economic conditions in... Japan? The UK? If the tickets are located and bought in London, and all the rest is money spent in London, their JPY should go much further. If it's in GBP, what costs would be higher?

Cost of JSA officials, the wrestlers and all their staff to go to the UK, their tickets must be paid in Japan, plus no doubt there are some fat fees going to the JSA and their rikishi...

Need a lot more pounds now to buy the same amount of Yen.

If it's in GBP, what costs would be higher?

The exchange rate. It used to be around 250 yen to the pound; today it's 133. If the sponsors are paying in pounds for eg plane tickets for all those fatties bought in yen, that alone would be an enormous hike in costs.

Multi-million Nippon Sumo organization can't absorb exchange difference?

Why would they want to? The yen's strength overseas doesn't change its buying power at home.

    Why would they want to?

ofcourse only if they want to promote Grand Sumo Tournament overseas.

It's the ticket sales in the UK, isn't it! They are not looking to travel cheaply, and they want to make a fat profit on top. OK, no wonder then...

A sumo event wouldn't interest us in Britain, we like a bit of culture like.

I remeber taking my younger Brother Rodney down Fairfield Halls and watch wrestling when he was little. Sumo though, nah, funny first time you see it, but dead boring after.

This type of sport doesn't have enough class for us Brits, we aint plonkers.

Shame as it would have been quite a well publicised and attended event. But money comes first and if they can't make enough profit to justify the travel then it's just not going to happen.
