The Mongolian grand champion said he has been bothered by pain in the elbow since the Nagoya meet in July. ‘‘I was concerned about it so I feel relieved after having it examined.

Wonder what prevented him from early check ups?

Just an excuse following the loss.

^^^^ stupid comment from someone who obviously doesn't watch sumo. You can tell sometimes after a match he would wince a bit and reach for his elbow occasionaly. But I guess in your mind he was "setting up his excuse".

Yah, I'm stupid. 10 years watching 6 tournaments a year.

It has been pointed out that sumo rikishi do not enjoy the type of sports medicine provided for athletes in other professional sports. Many of them smoke and virtually all of them drink. With few exceptions they are retired by 30 and in the grave by 55. This is known in Japanese as "futoku-mijikaku," which the dictionary translates as "leading a short and merry life."

Now Asashoryu can wipe up the new record of 33 titles, out doing Taiho's (gaijin Russian father) 31 and Chiyonofuji's (the greatest sumo wrestler of all in my opinion!) 30. Too bad. I hope some of the other mongul's triple their efforts to stand up and stop the guy. For all his antics, I can't stand the thought of him eclipsing Chiyo's number.
