Congrats, Hakuho!

Hakuho wins and wins but nobody cares. He doesn't draw a crowd. People don't find him or his style interesting.

Say what you will about Asashoryu, but the guy was a monster sumo who could draw a crowd.

Congratulations to Hakuho on his 30th yusho and to Goeido on his ozeki promotion.

Hakkeyoi ! The Mongolian grappler is now poised to overtake two of the most revered names in all of Japanese sport. ( Chiyonofuji and Taiho ) Let's see what happens ! By the end of this calendar year, he could be tied for the top ! Congrats to Hakuho !

Hakuho's physique bears an amazing resemblance to the late Taiho's and when I first saw him compete I expected great things from him. I wonder how many more years will pass until a Japanese citizen wins a sumo tournament again. Mongols (and one each Bulgarian and Estonian) have been the winners for 8 1/2 years now. The last Japanese to win was Tochiazuma in Jan. 2006.

You could bet the farm that the JSA (Sumo Kyokai) is painfully aware of that situation. They are really keeping their eyes on the likes of Kisenosato and Kotoshogiku, both ozeki. Goedo, a sekiwake will soon make promotion to ozeki. There is a real up and coming star, Endo. He has advanced so quickly that they haven't been able to give him a proper "hairdo" or mage, yet. He did just barely slide by with a winning record this basho, though.
