Takashi Toritani was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as the Hanshin Tigers pulled away with a three-run eighth inning to beat the Softbank Hawks 5-2 in interleague play on Friday. Pinch-hitter Shinjiro Hiyama hit a two-run single also in the eighth inning to push Hanshin’s lead to three runs at Koshien Stadium and Kyuji Fujikawa closed out the ninth to earn his Central League-leading 20th save.
In other games, Yakult routed Seibu 7-1, Orix trampled Hiroshima 12-2, Yomiuri got by Lotte 4-3 over 10 innings, Nippon Ham downed Chunichi 7-3 and Rakuten beat Yokohama 14-5.

And the Daily Yomiuri newspaper, totally unbiased of course (!), reported today that the score was Hawks 5 Tigers 2. That is, the same Yomiuri franchise that is 10 games behind Hanshin in the league.
