Matsuyama may not show a lot of charisma as some present day golfers, but he does have game. I am sure he will continue to improve and have an excellent career. Sorry to see Ryo Ishikawa not improve that much. Matsuyama has brought his game to a new level for Japanese golfers. Good to see!

You don't hear quite as much about this guy in the media and on the lips of the Japanese as, say... what was that kid's name who has quickly disappeared from the lips of the aforementioned since more than failing to live up to the hype everyone generated over him? Oh yeah, Ishikawa! But mention him and watch people squirm. Maybe that's why they're being a little quieter this time around?

That out of the way, good on Matsuyama, who's clearly been underrated until now. Let's hope he DOES get that Masters he dreams of getting some day.

And for the record, I like Ishikawa -- I just think it's a shame the media and people here made him out to be a champion before he had barely started, as they do with so many athletes who end up "letting them down" and being forgotten as a result.

Lad has a bit of timber doesn't he, lose a bit of that, but I like his quiet approach, not flash, smile and Brand Me. Nice guy.

Hopefully the japanese have learned their lesson about overhyping their athletes (yeah right, they'll continue to do it over and over again). "sekai-no ishikawa" and all that BS. Is it not simply enough to be a great athlete? it's embarrassing when every time a japanese press member is allowed into a press room, they ask other (non-japanese golfers) "what do you think of (ishikawa/matsuyama)'s game?". I remember Mickelson looking bewildered at last year's Master's...yet still answering... "uhh...i think his fundamentals are good"... which then got translated to "Mickelson has great respect and admiration for (insert japanese player's name)'s game!"
