Ummm...saying that "Japan’s high school baseball tournament has produced major league stars ..." is kind of silly.
All three examples played in the NPB leagues for several years before going off to MLB.
It would be better to say: "Major league stars Daisuke Matsuzaka, Hideki Matsui and Ichiro Suzuki have all appeared in Japan's high school baseball tournament."

Stars? Who? Ichiro is a star without doubt. But to borrow a concept from Japanese baseball, Matsui is little more than a helper, whose contributions to the team are rightly overlooked.
