Higuchi inducted into Women's Sports Hall of Fame

NEW YORK —

Japanese golfer Hisako Higuchi has become the first Japanese to be inducted into the International Women’s Sports Hall of Fame, sources close to her said Wednesday.

Higuchi, 62, who serves as president of the Ladies Professional Golfers’ Association of Japan, is one of the pioneers in women’s professional golf in the country and the only Japanese to capture a major tournament on either the U.S. LPGA or PGA Tours with her victory at the 1977 LPGA Championship.
