Wouldn't be surprised it goes to a country in the continent of Africa, just so the IOC can claim everyone got a fair shot at the games.

Too political. Hiroshima does not have the deep pockets nor infrastructure to host the games. You can't award the games to a city just beacuse "We was bombed".

Why hold an actual game at all? Just follow the example of the Nobel panel and award medals based on just how hard an athlete trains and how fast he thinks he can run, swim, bike etc? The time as come for a virtual Olympics!

No more debt! This is a stupid idea.

What's with the Japanese to want ot have the Olympic Games? Inferior complex?

Good luck to Japan with its 2020 bid. I personally think that it is a brilliant idea and I'd like to see it happen. My only tip coming from living here in the UK - make sure your government has enough money to fund it. That has been the biggest nuisance with the British bid: they won but didn't do the Maths properly first. The taxpayer is starting to notice.

I live in Hiroshima and I am very happy with the initiative. I think money is important, but when you apply based on a strong "concept" there are more things in play than just money. I agree we should wait to see who are bidding: if they are Chicagos and Madrids, with absolutely no particularity, we have a chance. If the bidders include Africa, Arabia or Russia (who has not organized one since 1980), this could be tougher. Europe has its olympics in 2012, America has lost its predominance on every major sport (except for swimming) and there is no point in organizing a 7th Olympics there, China, Australia and South America had already or will have their Olympics.

What a swell idea! Hiroshima should host the 2020 Summer Olympics because they endured the horrors of an atomic bomb in 1945, and want to use the Games to promote some fantastical ideas like nuclear disarmament and world peace. (And as a side benefit, what a way to conclude a more-than-half century effort of the "We Japanese As Victims"!)

What money to be wasted! Perhaps the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, U.S. President Barack Obama, could be the master of ceremonies for the Hiroshima Games, and, at the same time, have the opportunity to open an ObamaLand theme park in Obama, Japan.

I love sports in general, however, increasingly over the past two decades, I find myself less a fan of the Olympics with each successive Games.

Tokyo failed to get the 2016 Olympics. Japan needs to give up the idea that the Summer Games will return to the country for many, many years.

I Couldn't agree more with this, Hiroshima is a beautiful city.

well if they go for it, they should at least try to do it right. Remember to treat the IOC members to free holidays, flights, give them lots of money, err i mean gifts. If they go down that route they might have a chance as every one knows that the IOC are a bunch of corrupt money grabing skavs. If the olympics were truely about peace then why the heck did china with its human rights record get the games? What did they do for the IOC members i wonder? So as great as the idea is of these two cities holding the games, i dont think their recent history will have any effect on the IOC. Its will be like what they can do for them, nudge nudge wink wink, urgggh im gonna puke.

3words, STUPID STUPID & STUPID, ok that was 4-5words...........

DUH, after Ishihara wasted a load of YEN, then thoroughly embarassed Jpn in front of the world as a sore loser perhaps H&N shud wait till 2120, not sure if thats an Olympic year or not(probably not) but sorry Jpn is OUT for years to come after xeno-ishihara`s non-sense.

And in case H&N dont know, if they were to actually get the Olympics, then they wud have to have stadiums etc to .........ah well hold the events........

Sorry Jpn time to sit & watch from a far for a few decades before thinking about the Olympics

  • donkusai at 05:42 AM JST - 12th October

The idea is not bad, but the infrastructure simply isn't there. In the end, this will be just another "noble idea" that costs a lot of money and simply wastes everyone's time and effort.

  • helloklitty at 05:43 AM JST - 12th October

Why is Olympic game held every 4 year?

The Olympics are held every two years. The XXI Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver on February 12-28, 2010. The XXX Summer Olympics will be in London.

I can't see Japan hosting the Olympics with their aversion to volunteer work.

  • rajakumar at 05:52 AM JST - 12th October

    Good move Hiroshima/Nagasaki.

If olympics 2020 in Japan, in 2020,everyone can visit epicenter of nuclear bombings and expand more global peace via 1940s big historical lesson.
