Ganbarre, Sara-san ! Ganbarre, Nippon !

I hope she wins, but I'm sick of people thinking and the media spouting that the gold is already in Japan's hands. I watched some coverage yesterday before the men's speedskating short track event and the commentators said the gold was decided. Also on the screen leading up to the speed-skating event was written, "Japan's first Sochi gold medal coming up".

Hope she wins that elusive first medal for Japan in this Olympics. Won't be surprised if she doesn't win the gold as anything can happen at the olympics and an unmarked athlete who has saved the best for last has the jump of her life and wins it. The medal is long overdue to the extent that the private networks are repeatedly airing footages of medal victories of Japanese in past olympics. The J media is really naive and equate performance in the usual world cup circuit will translate to a medal in the olympics while forgetting that the olympics is the ultimate and the best are taking part whereas in the WC some of the best don't take part and favours athletes from rich countries who have sponsors. I was amazed the male speed skaters nagashima and kato and Kasai the 41 year old in ski jump were beginning to believe the hype from the J media that they were going to win a medal.

Sorry, I have to call you out on this. I was watching the show last night and there was no such thing written or said on that program.

I agree with you, and I still can't forget the horrified looks on the faces of Team Japan when figure skater Suzuki's points were announced! It's like they had already assumed that Japan had clinched the deal, or something.

I'm really rooting for the young lady Takanashi. I think she really has something special going for her: an extremely supportive family. One sign of this is that she attends an international school. She's headed for bigger things, all right! GO JAPAN!

I truly wish her well, but you know what they say about hatching eggs and counting chickens. There are a lot of good jumpers out there and always dark horses.

If the 17-year-old schoolgirl wins the inaugural event in Sochi on Tuesday, fireworks will shoot into the air above Kamikawa in celebration of her achievement, putting the hot-spring resort town on the map.

and if she doesn't win are they just gonna pack the fireworks away until summer? How about celebrating the fact that your little town has an Olympic athlete?

Go Sara-chan! All the interviews I've seen of her she seems so mature and level-headed - it's hard to believe she is a schoolkid still. Im staying up to watch - fingers crossed she soars like an eagle and romps it in!

two average jumps = no medal. A great shame after a great couple of years.

I'm a little heart broken for her. She had so many expectations placed upon her little shoulders on her and she didn't even medal. I would love to see her tell the J-media to GTFO, but i know that wont happen.
