Organisers have come in for criticism over the timing of the race, which went ahead despite torrential downpours caused by an approaching typhoon

There was NO torrential downpours at all, I was there, it was light rain, the track just has extremely poor drainage and all cars were on intermediate tries by choice going against the recommended full wet tries of the race organizers. All the drivers wanted to race, even Hamilton on the radio said "hurry up and start the race" in the first two laps.

Massa does a lot of screaming. Some of the teams were switching to full wet-weather tyres/tires, which would be normal in such circumstances. The organizers will have been listening to all of the drivers' voices in order to make an informed decision which was pretty inevitable by then.

Two objections to the reporting in para one above, re: "Horrifying footage has emerged showing the moment Jules Bianchi’s speeding Formula One car smashed into a stationary tractor-crane..."

One is that the tractor crane was moving at the time, not stationary, and Jules's car slid partly beneath it and beyond, and two is that 'horrifying' is a subjective and rather lurid word which will stoke up the recriminations from those who like to jump onto their high horse. This crash was a racing accident, and will need to be coolly analyzed to see what lessons can be learned. Horrifying for some, perhaps, and sad for others, but I for one object to being told what I should feel. I drive a fast car on track myself and the possibility of such an accident is something that I live with. If people are horrified, they needn't watch it. 'Nuff said.

I've seen the video. If the tractor was moving, it was only inches and the movement had nothing to do with the crash. The video of the crash would be horrifying for anyone who can put 2 + 2 together based on how much of the top of the car was sheared off as it passed under the tractor's counterweight. The driver's head was at that height. Frankly, I'm surprised he survived at all. Even if the helmet prevented a decapitation, the impact of his head with the tractor would have turned his brain into a skull full of detached tissues and ruptured blood vessels.

Watching that video, it is incredible that he wasn't instantly killed. In that split second he would have tried to scrunch down as low as he could, which is the cramped cockpit, with a 6 point harness, HANS and headrest, is not much. Plenty of finger pointing going on, however ultimately and unfortunately it could be that Bianchi is where the blame ends up, he was going much too quickly under double yellow flags. This is an issue that drivers have faced for a long time and FIA have been rather lenient in enforcing. Double yellow means that drivers must slow down and be prepared to stop if necessary until now must drivers lifted off for a second maybe two just enough to show that they "slowed down" and didn't go faster in that timed sector than normal. Prepared to stop? there is no way at all that Bianchi wasn't prepared to stop, he was flying and got caught out. This accident may well be the catalyst for actually enforcing the rules on double yellows. The cars have a pit lane limiter button an the steering wheels (which is very strictly enforced), I have heard chatter that a "double yellow" button is one option on the cards

I like it, it will reduce the need for safety cars as only one section of the track is artificially speed controlled not the entire field, on the whole track for 2-3 laps. Get passed the double yellow zone and then it's racing again.

As for Bianchi, I fear that is the end of his career and even worse. i hope he can make a recovery.

There are at least two videos, one of which is much clearer than the other.

typo; double negative -oops. " there is no way not at all Bianchi was to prepared to stop"
