Ichiro gets 3 hits in Mariners' loss

DETROIT —

Ichiro went 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base and Kenji Jojima had a single in four at-bats in the Seattle Mariners’ 12-8 loss to the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday. Ichiro singled up the middle and was caught stealing in the first inning but picked up his major league-leading 21st stolen base after reaching on an infield single in the sixth at Comerica Park. Teammate catcher Jojima singled to center in the fifth and grounded out in his other three at-bats.

Elsewhere, Boston Red Sox left-hander Hideki Okajima got two outs but loaded the bases in the eighth inning and was replaced by Jonathan Papelbon in a 2-1 win over the Kansas City Royals.    Los Angeles Dodgers closer Takashi Saito struck out pinch-hitter Ryan Freel, the only batter he faced, for the game-ending out to earn his seventh save in a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds.

3 more hits that mean little except in padding his hit numbers.

Spud, you are right ! Ichiro continues to play for meaningless individual numbers while the team as a whole implodes. Ichiro will never win a World series ring with the Mariners. Why he signed another contract with the M's is a mystery !
