Well, this game is quite indicative of the Mariner's season. Although they are playing some great baseball (currently in fourth place in the Wild Card standings; just behind the Tampa Bay Rays, and ahead of the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins), other than Ichiro, their hitting sucks. Today, the number 2, 3, 4, and 5 hitters behind Ichiro were 0-16. Russell Branyan got yet another 4 strikeout game. He gets a lot of homers, but gets even more strikeouts. Also, no one except Ichiro, is averaging over .300 in batting. But then again, that is the kind of team that Ichiro has had to work with for his whole career.

makes you wonder, should he be even batting leadoff? honestly, how would the other batters behind him do if they could see more pitches from the lead-off hitter's at-bat?

Told you yesterday he needs to hit for power more often. "good one Ichi"

Good point. If he were batting cleanup, he would be getting a lot more homers and driving in more runs. Then again, the other players would have to bat ahead of him, and if they can't get on base, then he won't have anyone to drive in anyway.

Seattle lost their top two starting pitchers, Washburn to Detroit and Bedard on disable list. Since Seattle does not score alot of runs, starting pitchers has to hold the other team. Without these quality starting pitchers, they are out of any contention this year. Seattle should have picked up Padilla from Texas, he was released and was picked up by the Dodgers.
