It's really a no-brainer. He wants to play for the Yankees, doesn't want a huge long term deal, and even at his age, he's still better than the average MLB outfielder.

Paulinusa, I agree, he is better than most players of his age. I love to watch him in the outfield.

Would have loved to see him in an Angles uniform playing outfield right next to Hamilton.

He's not just better than most players of his age, he is better than most players regardless of age. He's fun to watch.

Not really a Yankees fan but good for Ichiro. I am sure he will excel in NY. He deserves to play for a decent team. The Yanks will not be sorry about this deal.

Minimum $12,000,000 for 2 years of playing baseball. That's it, then, i start baseball practice tomorrow!

The Yankees are everything I despise about sport. Big money, artless purchasing of the best players to buy wins and championships.
Those who support the Yankees are like those who support Manchester United. No appreciation for the finer things in life.
Da te.

If ya think that, then unfortunately you gonna start hating MLB. The Yankees don't even have the highest payroll in sport anymore - that'd be the LA Dodgers with over $240 million, the highest payroll ever. And other teams now too, like the LA Angels, Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers, etc. Now that other teams are finally earning Yankee-type monies, guess what they're doing? Same thing the Yankees have been doing. (Actually, the Yankees are shedding payroll - they're going the other way, becoming cheaper, in order to fall below the luxury tax.)
Just goes to show that other teams were only limited by money before, not some sort of "appreciation for the finer things in life." Given the same opportunity of earnings similar to the Yankees, they'd take advantage of it. (Well, except the take-the-money-and-run Miami Marlins.)
