Ouch, coming back to Japan would be step backwards wouldn't it?

I don't think he "failed" to make the postseason roster, he wasn't allowed to be part of it to start as he joined the Phillies too late in the season.

Shinjo had alot of success after coming back here...Irabu too to a certain extent.Sasaki got treated like royalty in his one year back in the Japan leagues. But its still got to be disappointing.

Disappointing? I can think of 4-5000 man to 1 oku yen reasons that could assuage his feelings to "play" baseball again here in his home country. Nice work if he can get it.

What about the Mexican league? Or the Bush League?

At least he tried the Majors and survived for 4 years. Not many players could even dream that. (Oh, and earned a World Series ring.)

Japan should be open to allowing people to try and fail, and if they fail, to try again.

Biengo, you're quite right; postseason rosters are set on August 31, and the only way someone not on that list can become eligible to play in the postseason is if one of the 8/31 players is injured or otherwise released.
