A strained shoulder muscle landed Texas Rangers hurler Yu Darvish on the 15-day disabled list on Thursday, and the Japanese star will miss Major League Baseball's All-Star Game.
Darvish had been scheduled to pitch Thursday against the Baltimore Orioles, but the Rangers said he had a strained muscle in his right shoulder.
The club hope the injury is the result of fatigue and they can bring him back into the rotation after the All-Star break.
"I don't think it's a big issue," Darvish said. "But just as a precaution, I would rather skip a start than push it through."
Darvish pitched on Saturday and felt discomfort in a throwing session on Monday.
Even though he won't be able to pitch for the American League in the All-Star Game, he said he still planned to attend the midseason showcase at the New York Mets' Citi Field next Tuesday.
He was elected to the team in the players' vote.
Darvish, in his second season since leaving Japan, is 8-4 with a 3.02 ERA in 18 starts. He leads the American League with 157 strikeouts.

Rest well, young man. The years of merciless pitching (forced on by coaches) in Japan can't take their toll too early over there or your finished. 'Tis a shame about the All-Star Game, but there will be more so long as you're able to play.
