Welcome to the onset of middle age, Serena. Once you get past 25 or so, you find you can't do all the things you used to be able to do. Making it through the entire tennis season without injury is going to become more impossible each year from now on. You had an impressive run this year, though. Yokatta desu.

Nothing against Serena but I'm so glad Stephens won today. What a sweetheart and she played a fantastic game of tennis today against her idol. I'll definitely be rooting for her against Azarenka in the semis.

I can't wait to see how Stephens does when she's 25, playing a 19-year-old.

Or, it states the fact that she was injured and now is out of the tournament.

Serena's most formidalbe weapon, the serve was hampered by the injury to her back. Sloane deserves credit for hanging in there. It's good to see some of the young American ladies making a move ! C'mon, Sloane !

So why is the headline and story focused on Serena? Sure she's a star, but I think the bigger story is that the 29th seeded newcomer beat the 3rd seeded superstar in an unprecedented upset. Sorry but the headline should read, "Stephens defeats Williams to reach Australian Open Semi-finals." or something along those lines...

So USN what's your problem with the headline? So much hatred for Serena? The headline is what it says. Its about Serena. If you don't like it, then don't read it.

It's unfortunate that Serena sustained an injury during the match, but that's because she was required to push herself to the point of injury to play her opponent. Credit is due to Stephens for playing well enough to force Williams to push the envelope. If your logic held any water and victory over an injured opponent was unfair, unacceptable, or dismissable, then tennis matches would automatically be postponed if one of the players became injured and only resumed after both players were fully fit. The risk of injury is part of the game and plays a huge role in a tournament that's played over consecutive days. I suppose if Li Na wins the final tomorrow it somehow doesn't count in your eyes because other top contenders (Williams, Azarenka) suffered injuries and either lost or could not play the finals match at her best? Gimme a break.
