I can think of the easiest way to cut back on costs: fire half the people in the IOC, and then fire most of the rest, and allow the remaining members only a fraction of what they get now. That would be a good start, but we all know it'll never be on the chopping block, so this is going to be more lip service.

I hope more countries just say no to the Olympics regardless. Not against the idea of the world coming together but the prices are born out of the local economy and not the IOC that rakes in the cashola. The IOC should be paying for it, we can't afford their games anymore.

A permanent home close to its origins at Olympia in Greece gets more and more appealing every four years. Letting every country contribute based on their participation would make them more affordable too. There are plenty of other bombastic global sports events that can be shared instead of them.
