Ishihara said a bid by Tokyo could go a long way toward helping Japan rebuild from the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March

Nonsense. If Tohoku is not rebuilt by 2020, then Japan is in much worse shape than I fear. Besides, spending money to build new facilities in Tokyo does not really support the rebuilding anyway -- other than possibly lifting national morale.

Is there anyone on the planet more detached from reality than Ishihara Shintaro?! This is about the last thing Tokyo needs and with money in short supply, he wants to waste how much money on this pipe dream of his? Sad.

You want the 2020 Olympics Ishihara san then starting open your mouth more on gov't issues to get Tokyo to act on Fukushima!! Otherwise, think about opening up only future needed hospitals.

"Ishihara said a bid by Tokyo could go a long way toward helping Japan rebuild from the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March. "

Once again, this lunatic proves he is unfit for office. HOW does building Olympic facilities in TOKYO help people in Tohoku?? The people of Japan seem more or less united AGAINST a Tokyo Olympic bid (again), but Ishihara will ignore them all and vote unilaterally again.

Time to start gathering up email addresses and contacts of IOC members and their staffs. Going to have to resend a whole bunch of stuff that I sent years ago slamming S.I. for his xenophobia then just wait for him to open his big dumb mouth again. This should be fun.

Japan can`t afford it !!!!! Many people are homeless in Tokyo before and after the 3/11 Earthquake !!!!! What is this guy thinking about !!!

The money will go no where. The cost to build an Olympic Village and stadium will be enormous. I wish Kan will tell him to shut up !!!

He just wants a revival of his young days and the Tokyo Olympics in 1964.. That selfish grandpa didn't notice it's already 2011

When will this man give it up? He doesn't care about Japan, he just wants to build his legacy. Anyone with any knowledge about him who is a foreigner is certainly not going to give him anything. Perhaps if he stepped out of the way, Tokyo might have a hope in hell but with him running the show? Not a chance. Besides, he'll probably be dead by 2020 anyway seeing as how he is no spring chicken.

I guess that means spending $176 million on another bid.

Well Shintaro, your whining and slander of the Olympic Selection Committee last time should go a long way toward being successful this time.

Ishihara continued, "I'd also like to see Tokyo host the United Nations, the World Court, and a first-class spaceport."

But wouldn't the Olympics be full of foreigners?

Ishihara said a bid by Tokyo could go a long way toward helping Japan rebuild from the devastating earthquake and tsunami in March.

I thought this guy said it was punishment for being greedy or something like that... this guy wants to speed money on marketing and advertising when the country needs to be focusing on building houses for people, once all the cities and all the people are back in their homes and the nuclear situtation is under control then bid...

Once again he is taking our tax money and throwing it to the wind. Such people like him live in a different world than we ordinary beings ... even a different universe. Like other politicians, he wants his name put on something to remember him by ... at our expense. And the voters ... they just love this guy ... why?

    Ishihara needs to be sedated....

Will somebody please tell this rambling old moron to shut his piehole?

tmarie - I agree. Every politician wants a legacy. He currently has a failed bid and a failed bank to show for his time in office. This is his one last chance at glory. The vanity is embarrassing, like when he and his team were still wearing those workers' uniforms long after Edano had reverted back to a suit for his press conferences.

Hasn't he learned his lesson from the last time he did this?

Besides, now is not the appropriate time to prepare the country for the Olympic Games. The nation is still healing from the double disasters.

The Olympics money held by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government should be used for sheltering the homeless and non-nuclear electricity projects before they can they host the Olympic Games---if Tokyo win, of course.

Given Ishihara's character, the IOC might pass on Tokyo again. Unless he resigns in a year or two or pass away, given his age.

If Mr. Ishihara still insists to go for 2020 Olympic bid , well I have a news for you, Mr. Ishihara.

We will see a new olympic uniform; a white safety suit with a country flag stiched on it, and everyone has to wear a gas mask in opening ceremony.

I remember after the last failed bid, he vowed to show us precisely where every yen of the money he spent on his pipedream had been used. And that was the last time he mentioned that money. The old gimp's got deep pockets, and he wants us taxpayers to keep stuffing them.
