I'll take up golf when I'm my Dad's age....:)

  • TexasAggie at 01:21 PM JST - 13th May

Still wondering if he'll make it to the final day.

Hell, he can't even make the cut in tournaments over there in Japan.

Look for another two days then on the plane back to Japan "effort" from this kid.

  • Tahoochi at 01:35 PM JST - 13th May

Soldave: I was just trying to make a point that although this is simply a report telling us Ishikawa has been invited to the PGA Championship, some people still find it necessary to criticize the kid, and even Japan's level of pro golf. On the other hand, your question of whether or not he will make the cut is a valid, objective question, since he hasn't made the cut in all of his few appearances in PGA tourneys. I don't think he will, but you have to give the kid some credit for the level of skill and maturity for his age.

  • Tahoochi at 02:40 PM JST - 13th May

I have to correct myself; he made the cut once out of 4 PGA tourneys.

tahoochi, i agree with you, some people can't help themselves and try to find every opportunity on this site to make insults.

hey, not me...I'm simply not interested in Ishikawa's success.....Golf in Japan to me is an insult to the game itself. Most people here use it as a way to be snobbish about and to hang out with superiors in order to keep their jobs.

seesaw: You're joking, right? This is exactly the type of bias comment that am1301 and I are talking about... not being interested in Ishikawa's success is fine (even though I don't understand why you would even bother to post that comment if you aren't interested in him), but your comment about snobbish golf in Japan is completely off topic, yet for some reason you find it necessary to say it? Wait a minute, even your comment about not being interested in Ishikawa's success has major negative vibes... are you interested in his failure?

  • seesaw at 05:37 PM JST - 13th May

I'm interested in neither. You are making such a big deal about this guy. We are all here to give comments. All of us here are entitled to our own opinions. If they are off topic, Moderator is there to filter them. If he hasn't filtered our comments, it means they are not off-topic...yet!...:)

Fair enough, maybe all the negativity just got to me. I was just hoping that ONCE IN A WHILE, a simple article like this one might not draw so many critical comments.

Sounds so much like the male version of Michelle Wie and other so-called young stars of golf. Word of advice to any young "stars" of golf: actually win something first; then get the respect you deserve.

    Go Ryo-kun! Silence the naysayers!!

  • hoserfella at 09:12 PM JST - 13th May

Tahoochi- You obviously dont follow the game in Japan. Ever seen a tournament? 90% of the "professionals" here are nothing more than old rich oyajis who have whittled their handicaps down to a 3. Very little real talent. While Ishikawa may have some actual ability, one shouldnt get excited over someone coming from such an inbred tour.

Good point, hoserfella. The oyajis here remind me of the old whiners back in the U.S. who have no real talent whatsoever, but like to put their "young stars" like Michelle Wie on a pedestal.

  • aintgottimetobl at 08:03 AM JST - 14th May

This isnt about the oyajis, this is about an excellent golfer, the youngest ever invited into a PGA event..he deserves applause not criticism.
