Good on ya, Ryo. I saw a few clips on TV last night and you were impressively in control, and in stride. An announcer said at first Woods wasn't watching your shots, but after a hole or two, he was casing your every move!
Don't lose your cool tomorrow...
As golf.com reported, Ryo kind of whaled away with his driver while the other two were taking more measured shots, mostly with their irons, but he got the result he needed, and more power to him.
And aren't those plaid pants adorable?
(Especially compared to the his-and-hers ensemble in a disasterously green harlequin check worn by John Daly and his girlfriend).
I watched this 3am. Ryo played really well. Good luck to him, hope he can keep it up. Tiger always plays like this in the beginning...and always comes back strong.
Wow....boy you played good. I posted here the other day saying you would go double digits over in the first two days.....you made me look like a complete and utter dill....but congrats to you Ryo. Hope you can do more of the same in the second round and hope the wind and rain stays away. Awesome playing for a 17 year old.
Good luck to Kuboya, most people here don't care about him but he will probably go on and win this thing!
Ishikawa is overhyped by the Japanese, all the claims that he will be the "next Tiger" are ridiculous.
It is quite sad that there is very little said about Kuboya, although maybe because it's a Kyodo News story. AP might have covered the top players a little more.
Ishikawa hit only 4 of 14 fairways with drivers all day, but those were close enough that he hit 15 of 18 greens - now that's good scrambling.
The bad first rounds have been costing Tiger the majors all year. The deficits have been too much for his comebacks, and that may be the case here yet again.

Good on Ishikawa. I hope he can keep it up. Don't try to emulate or impress Woods.... keep to your own game and let him go to you.

How can there be no mention in the article of Kenichi Kuboya who is at 5 under and tied for second place in the tournament after the first round?
Moderator: There is. Please read the article again.

Good job for Kuboya. No one expected that.
